A Bed Reading

Live event poetry reading / intervention into Alejandro Figueredo Diaz-Perera's installation "A Home Coming (Revisited)" at Chicago Artists Coalition, January 23, 2016.

After reading pages, I slipped them into the bed installation's water. Overnight, several of the pages sunk to the bottom, but the ink from the text remained hovering on the surface, captured by the accumulating algae.

The paper drifts to the bottom, the text remains.

This left the impression of floating text in the water. I wish Alejandro and I could say we intended for this to happen—our materials tests before the event determined how the vellum and ink would respond to water, but we did not think of prolonged exposure.

Funny, because duration and attrition are so central to both of our work.
